For the GS-08:
You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following:

Drafted timber cruise plans, performing lay out of timber sale boundaries; Summarized cruise and marking data for inclusion in reports describing timber quality and quantity, topographic features and timber marking guidelines; Conducted timber sale appraisals and contract preparation for advertisement; Traversed sale areas to collect unit acreage and other data for sale appraisals, logging plans, post harvest sale area improvement activities, and Erosion Control. OR two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as Forest Resource Mgt, Industrial Forestry); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-09:
You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following:
Determined sample cruise design, selecting sampling methods, completing timber sale cruises. Evaluated logging problems and determining most feasible logging methods, accessibility and impacts to other resources. Gathering data for logging system analysis such as road access and landing location suitability. Coordinated with resource specialists and timber sale administration team to ensure timber sale preparation and implementation met the intent of the NEPA decision, improved on efficiencies or reduced conflicts with harvest implementation. OR two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as such as Forest Resource Mgt, Industrial Forestry); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:
If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
